Draft to Be Reinstated? Who Would Go?
By Cathryn Conroy, Netscape News Editor
Two key Democrats in the House of Representatives--Charles Rangel of New York and John Conyers of Michigan--are urging that the draft be reinstated. Why? They think the White House and Republican political leaders would be more wary of sending troops to Iraq if their children were going to help do the fighting, reports Reuters. The Bush administration has dismissed the idea, saying it's not necessary since the current volunteer force is working well.
Who IS Charlie Rangel? And why does he want to reinstate the draft?
Still, Rangel and Conyers are moving forward with the bill. Why? "It has unfortunately become the duty of someone else's child to go to war and die as the privileged evade the tragic consequences of war," Conyers said in a statement reported by Reuters.

Heh heh heh.... My thoughts.....
Though I don't like the idea of the draft, and would personally hate going into a war that I, nor the vast majority of the country support, they kind of have a point. Do you really think we'd be fighting to put more money in the pocket of George Bush and Haliburton Industries if Bush's two daughters had to be on the front line? I really doubt it.
My thoughts on Iraq and Saddam Hussein. A man who illegally took power through deception, executes innocent people, ignores his people, especially those suffering under his regime, labels anyone who thinks on their own and disagrees with the government as "unloyal" and can imprison them without giving them reason for as long as he deems necessary, runs his country for his own greed to put money from exploited oil fields into his own pocket, constantly lying to his people saying he loves them while he screws them over and destroys them. No I don't like him. And as much as he says he wants peace, he wants this war.
Saddam sounds like a pretty bad guy. But read the newspaper, I wasn't talking about Saddam Hussein, I was talking about George Bush. The man has made a mockery of the constitution. If you're not busy, pick up a history book and read about Germany in the 1920's. If you've ever wondered how a country got to the point where it decided it could follow a man like Adolf Hitler, because it either wanted somebody to blame (Jews, or in our case, Muslims) or was too afraid of the power of the government, take a look at America now. We are on our way to being the next Nazi Germany. Don't believe that it couldn't happen here. It IS happening here.
Sometime, pick up the book "Stupid White Men," by Michael Moore. If it doesn't open your eyes to the country around you, nothing will.
Read this, and then tell me your thoughts. Then remember George Bush Sr. was head of the CIA.
At any rate, I gotta get going. Take care. Adios!

Does Michael Moore speak gospel? No. I just suggested that you read his book, I found it interesting, and though I didn't agree with all of it, I learned a few things. I just suggested you read it the same way you suggest I listen to Rush, but obviously Moore doesn't speak the gospel that Rush "Jesus Jr." Limbaugh does.
Is there anything worth fighting for? Yes. Many things. Freedoms that we have are worth fighting for. But the last war we fought over freedom was in the 1860's and was about the freedom of the african american people. What did World War I have to do with our freedoms? Nada. WWII we stayed pretty much out of until we got hit by Japan, that war I'd say was justified, cuz Nazis are hateful little sons of bitches bent on taking over the world. Fine. Korea, Vietnam, both really had nothing to do with us. Desert Storm??? Sorry to tell you this, but it WAS about oil. That's not just liberal crap, that's the God's honest truth. If we gave a rat's ass about Kuwait, or helping the Iraqi people oust Saddam, why did we get them to revolt with our support and then back out and leave them all to die once George Sr. got what he wanted? Why do you think they all hate our guts now? Why do you think they flew planes into our buildings? Because they "hate our way of life and freedoms?" If you think that's it, then I guess this debate is over, because I would have no idea what to say to that.
Blame Clinton for nukes in N. Korea. Whatever. You republicans are never happy. You want your cake and to eat it too. He could've been looking after this situation, but instead, you made him spend months explaining a stain on a blue dress. Here's what really happened. In the mid to late eighties, the USA and USSR were in a pissing contest to see who could build the most nukes. Basically it ended when the USA bet the USSR under the table. Imagine a poker game where we both kept raising the pot, and we watch the USSR match us bet for bet, all the while fully realizing we have a lot more chipsthan them. They obviously went completely broke. And while asking for mercy in the 1990's, they stopped aiming at us, and offered to disarm their weapons if we could help them out financially. All of them. This was unprecidented. Their people were starving in the cold, and if we threw them some cash, they offered to disarm all their bombs. But we did nothing because we were too busy with Monica Lewinsky. The offer was on the table towards the end of the Clinton years. The russian mob took over and sold the nuclear weapons to N. Korea and Iran. And meanwhile, while those 235 FBI agents spent american tax dollars investigating a blow job, al Queda were planning 9/11 and N. Korea were experimenting with Nuclear Warheads. You caused this mess, and you're the first to blame someone else.
I saw this coming. I called it out during the debates in 2000. If George gets into office, we're going to war. And what do you know. And of course Saddam isn't being 100% cooperative in showing us his arsenal. Because he knows that it doesn't matter what happens, we're invading. We could open a nuclear silo and find a field of flowers with little bunny rabbits frolicking, we're still going to bomb the shit out of them. Why, because we have become a totaliarian system, and we're intent on taking over the world. Watch. Just watch. We're going to war no matter what. With Iraq, who we "suspect" of nuclear weapons, and NOT with Korea, who we know has weapons. We'll negotiate with N. Korea. And even if we find absolutely nothing, Bush WILL go back on his promise to leave Iraq alone once they prove they have no weapons, and we'll attack them fully aware that they are pretty much defenseless.
I think things are worth fighting for, but I would hate to die, or lose one of my brothers or friends in a war for oil prices, which I truly don't believe is worth fighting for.
N. Korea is a communist state. Communism is one of the biggest threats to capitalists, because theoretically, there can be no rich people. And since the rich people are the ones who control the politicians who control the world, communism is evil. It's really not evil. In theory it's a perfect society. It rids society of class, and therefore of prejudice. There are no poor, there are no rich. There's no religion either, and I'm not really for, nor against that. I find it ironic that nothing since the dawn of man has caused more war, segregation, death, famine, cruelty, and hatred than religion. Seems like a lot of people just miss the point.
At any rate, N. Korea and S. Korea have a history of not getting along. But doesn't it seem funny that the biggest advocate for us not invading N. Korea is actually S. Korea? Because finally, there is beginning to be peace between the two. The first railroad connecting the countries is in midstages of being built. S. Korea, our pals, are saying, "No wait, hold back, they're starting to open up and be friendly." But, no, our "President" Bush, who has the biggest Texas boner for blowing shit up is starting to get in the way of PEACE!!
I as a citizen who loves this country but has lost faith in it's politicians who sell us out for a quick buck, I think we need another revolution, a UN intervention, something. We're on a freightening path. I'd have no problem defecting to Canada to avoid joining an army that would turn me into an evil guy. Hypothetically speaking of course. I mean those who left Germany in the 30's to avoid being part of the Third Reich were model citizens, and are seen as such today. But to Germany in the 30's they were deserters. It's all about who you ask. It's all about your point of view. And the way you follow GWB, a man who honestly doesn't give a shit about you, your job, your family, your money, or your vote, it occurs to me your point of view is skewed.
But I know of all of this, you really won't hear any of it. It's the conservative mind, that when a new idea or conflicting thought comes along, it bounces off like bullets to superman. Can you consider for five minutes that I may, just may, be right?
And speaking of human rights violations. There have been four countries in the United Nations that have been removed from the Human Rights Council. Iraq, North Korea, India and the United States of America.
America is one of only six countries, including Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen that executes minors. Not even China lets their government kill children.
So who does have the right to police the world? Not us. But of course you'd think we do, because you buy into Big Brother Theory like every other blind conservative. WE wrote a thing called the Monroe Doctrine back in the 1770's saying that the Eastern Hemisphere would stayout of the Western Hemisphere's business and vice versa. A contract we wrote, that we violate whenever we can make a quick buck.
Ugh, again.
Sorry if this came out at all harsh, it's just that watching the news lately, I've been feeling very passionate about this stuff. It's getting my blood boiling everytime I turn on CNN and see what hypocritic thing GWB is saying today. My personal favorite so far was when Saddam won 99.7% of the vote in his country, and Bush said that he wouldn't stand for an election that was controversial and obviously rigged. I almost pissed myself laughing at the pot calling the kettle black.
So no offense meant.
Bedtime.

How Hitler Came to Power. By Uncle Glenn
A young man read a book by a misguided author.
The young man believed what he read.
He listened to others with the same misguided agenda.
He bought into the all woes were somebody else's
fault.
So he preached to all that would listen that
"Things couldn't get any worse"
And that their goverment was the worse, and the enemy.
People believed the young man because they didn't
know.
They too were of the "victim mentality"
They supported his beliefs, it was trendy.
They elected him to lead them, he was cool, a star.
The people felt superiour, knowledgable, enlightened.
They were the "chosen" And wouldn't believe others.
After years of misery, hardship, death and
destruction.
As their homes burned and crumbled around them.
And everything that was once good, but not perfect.
Was gone.
And the people who once followed the trendy cool guy.
Who chanted their previous goverment was the enemy.
And thought that "Things couldn't get any worse."
Those that were left stood amongst the rubble.
And another enlightenment was thrust upon them.
That maybe "Things COULD get allot worse."
And although it wasn't perfect.
What they HAD, was maybe the best thing going.
And wished they hadn't been so quick to abandon it.
To point the finger of blame at it.
And would have stood up for it rather then against it.
The End.

The previous government was in almost complete poverty from costs of starting the first world war. They abandoned it to try to get out of it faster by making up an enemy and starting a war. Nothing builds an economy faster than a war. Not every Nazi was a willing Nazi, instead could've easily been a man who saw that he could pick one of two sides, join the Third Reich or end up as it's victim. Just like America is becoming. Bush has said it himself, you are either with us, or against us. Look at John Walker Lindh. He left America and joined the Taliban and we acted like he was the antichrist incarnate. Though he is one of the bad guys, he should get no special punishment just because he used to be American. Part of being American and extending our freedoms to other nations is that you have the right to do whatever the hell you want. If you're American and you want to leave America, you can. What you do out there is your own damn business. But why, why would an American leave America? Maybe it's not all that Big Brother has cracked it up to be.
I went to see Michael Moore's movie "Bowling for Columbine" with my roommate Marcy. We both liked the film, and then for christmas she bought me "Stupid White Men." So that's why I'm on the Michael Moore thing right now. Just because I've seen it a bit recently. I don't think his word is gospel, I frankly flat out disagree with him at parts (which is how I know I don't just buy everything he says because I want to. How often do you disagree with Rush?) At any rate, I'd really like you to see the movie. I know you probably won't, but I just thought I'd reccommend it. You'd be amazed.
Ok, now, for real. Bedtime.

John Walker Lindh, yeah, I don't like the guy, but once he bails on America, who the hell cares if he USED to live here? He's a bad guy just like the rest. Does it shock you that he's white? That he was American? How could someone love love every warm and cozy moment of living is such a perfect utopic society as America?
Look here's the bottom line. I love America in theory. The freedoms we have, the rights we have, the equality we have are all good in theory. Unfortunately, due to one thing and one thing only, it doesn't work out right, and it ruins it for us and gives us all a bad name to the rest of a world that already has us on its shit list. It empedes on my freedoms, on my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It has always been around as an obstacle, and has fought against the progression of society at every turn. You asked if I felt there was anything worth fighting for, this is it, this is what I believe in my heart of hearts is worth fighting for. This is what I do fight for every day of my life. And every day of my life I'm fought against. At every turn it's there, it's army looking back at me. If you've read my letters for the past couple years, if you've read my site, if you've engaged in a personal conversation with me, you've heard my stories from the front line, as I look into the eyes of my enemy and do my best to defeat him, not with violence, but with intellegence.
My fight, the only fight worth fighting, is against the conservative mind.
The mind that protects itself with a thick shell against any new or conflicting thought that may pass it's way. The mind that defends itself illogically, and violently at times, to pass on its skewed ways to another. The mind that longs for the good old days, back when society was beautiful, when you didn't hear about gay people, when we could hit women, lynch blacks, and live in our white-bred towns. The conservative mind that protects the things that liberals fought against them to gain in the previous generation, and labels it as how it always was. The conservative mind that fought against freeing slaves, allowing women to vote, same sex marriages, letting the african american family to move in down the street because it would lower your property value. The conservative mind that does not see the hypocracy in fighting for the freedom of speech while banning Eminem from stores. The conservative mind that could enter into a debate with me time and time again about Gun Control and the NRA, about the Gore vs Bush election, about September 11, about John Walker Lindh and the Taliban, and argue it with me night after night and through it all never hear a single word I've said, dismissing it all before it has even finished reading as "liberal crap from a kid who has never seen the real world," while preaching from a small white bred town in the midwest. The conservative mind that wants to censor me because I don't know what's good for me, that wants to put laws on a womans body because they don't know whats best for them. The conservative mind that lives in fear and ignorance of the rest of a world it doesn't understand, and more importantly doesn't wish to understand because it has learned enough about the world through listening to Rush Limbaugh. The mind that formulates no opinions of its own, but rather chooses to let others think for it and it will just follow suit. The mind that rules through greed and apathy. The mind that looks out for number one. The mind that knows money before compassion, selfishness before selflessness, greed before common sense, preset rules before logic. The mind that doesn't realize, nor wish to realize how deep in a well of hypocracy it dwells.
The conservative mind, the biggest enemy I have ever faced in the biggest war I have ever known. A war that has spanned generation after generation. A war that is fought in my homeland day after day, night after night.
An enemy not to be defeated with violence but with common sense and compassion. An enemy I did not ask for, but came searching for me. An enemy that struck first and took my uncle. An uncle that is worth fighting for, and though he is fighting me back every step of the way, I don't want to give up on him.
You asked if I thought there was anything worth fighting for. I've been fighting for a long, long time.
