If You Build It, They Will Come.

Well the Stanley Cup Finals are over. New Jersey has once again won the Cup. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim came one game away from winning it all in a playoff year where they weren't even supposed to get past the first round. Yes they beat my team, the Detroit Redwings, yes, they actually swept them. But as they moved on to the next round to beat the No. 1 Dallas Stars in six, you really couldn't help but hope they kept going. There's something about rooting for the underdog.

The real reason I'm posting about this is that I've figured out a new pet peeve of mine. Classlessness. I'm not even sure that's a word. People with no class. Especially sports fans. People who throw iceballs at players. People who burn down Wembley Stadium. People who applaud a college football coach for punching a player on the other team in the face. People who scream at their kids during little league games. And last night I found out... people from New Jersey.

The story of the Ducks is a great one. Especially J.S. Giguere. A rookie goalie who lead his team past the first, second, and third rounds, and one game away from winning it all. He was the heart of the team, the silent leader. You can't read about this kid and not smile. He set all kinds of records during the post-season including being only the fifth player in the history of the NHL to be awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy (most valuable player throughout the entire playoffs) on the team that lost the Stanley Cup. A tremendous honor and very very much deserved, and when they awarded it to him, tears in his eyes after a very well fought post-season came had come only one victory away, what do the fans in New Jersey do? They boo him.

Absolutely no class. You assholes got the Cup, why do you need to rub it in, especially against the underdog? Applaud Giguere, he deserves your respect. But no, not if you're in New Jersey.

Assclowns.
